General description of the collection: The Samuel C. Russell photograph collection consists of an album that was presented to Major General Samuel C. Russell, commanding general of the United States (U.S.) Army Air Defense Center by Bridagier General Meir Amit of the Israelli Army. Its contents are views of the Israeli-Egyptian War of 1967. Photos of General Dayan, David Ben Gurion and General Meir Amit show the top Israeli officials. There are photos of the Sinai, Israeli infantry, artillery, armor and the air force. There are several battle scenes and numerous photos of captured Egyptian prisoners of war (POWs) and Egyptian military equipment. There are two photos of girls of the Israeli Defense Force (I.D.F.) in training and a great photo of the Israeli victory parade.

Moshe Dayan (b. May 20, 1915, Palestine-d. Oct. 16, 1981, Tel Aviv, Israel), General in the Israeli Army and politician, was trained at an early age in the Jewish militia (Haganah) and imprisoned by the British when Haganah was declared illegal in 1939. Released from prison in 1941, he trained as an intelligence scout in Syria.
